What an exciting, honest newsletter! I think writers can sometimes submit stuff they don't wholly believe in, too, in the hope that if enough's flung out, some might stick, so your integrity and renewed purpose is really inspiring.

I agree wholeheartedly with the posters below, and would like to add that I am human! Also, I am helping other writers as creative lead in a group I formed in my home town. Unfortunately, there are one or two writers experimenting with AI. And it's getting a tad too popular, so i am spreading the word about what you have said, Five South, and passing on your Newsletter item to them. Well spoken and Thank You for your integrity. Nice to hear from the Scottish contingent! Glad about the local group, sorry about the members using AI. I think the more people talk about it and vocalize their disdain or moral objection of it, the better. It needs to be wholly rejected for creative work like writing and in art. If nothing else, the objection needs to be that it's trained on stolen work. A lot of people want the easy way. If they didn't, multi-level marketing wouldn't exist.
I don't use AI to write, but I am publishing a story next week about a man who uses AI as a companion in a world where there are hardly any humans left. To do this, I used ChatGPT with the following prompt: “You are going to play yourself in story. Do not suggest directions the narrative could take or offer text or text substitutions of any kind. Simply answer the character’s questions and respond to his statements.” I also let it name itself. Of course, what it said had to be edited because as you've pointed out, AI is not talented. I don't know if this story is going to piss people off, but I like to push things.
